Single Girder Overhead Cranes for American Truck Industry
A U.S. truck manufacturer has successfully implemented Yuantai single girder overhead cranes across two procurement cycles, with all units operating reliably since installation.
This client started out as an automotive garage and over the years they have expanded their property considerably, as well as expanding into a new workshop. Their new workshop required a simple, safe and durable lifting solution. They required it to meet the ASME B30.16 standard for chain hoists and to be able to install it on their new workshop. Because this was a first-time supplier relationship, the client preferred to test with a small trial order.
Transaction History
In May 2024, the client sought a custom single girder crane solution for their Michigan workshop. Yuantai proposed a 1-ton single girder overhead crane with electric chain hoist, designed for ASME B30.16-compliant Class A3 duty cycles. After rigorous evaluation of load capacity, voltage compatibility (220V/60Hz/3-phase), and pricing, the client initially ordered 2 hoists for quality testing. The customer's team made a detailed evaluation of our solution, design parameters and price, and was very satisfied with the product and price. The customer's factory already have 137 units bridge cranes in operation now, and he needs our cost-effective lifting solution to improve productivity. Since it is the first time to cooperate, the client is more cautious. He proposed to buy 2 units electric chain hoist first as a trial order to test the quality of the products.
1. Specification of The Two Chain Hoist
The trial order included both traveling and fixed electric chain hoists to match different lifting needs inside the workshop. The traveling models were rated at 1 ton and 2 tons, each with a 5-meter lifting height, while the fixed model was rated at 1 ton with the same lifting height. All hoists were configured for 220V, 60Hz, three-phase power to match the existing electrical system in the facility. This configuration allowed the client to test smooth travel, stable lifting, and precise control under real production conditions, without changing their infrastructure or operating habits.
2. New demand for hoists
The first transaction went very smoothly and we supplied the two chain hoists within the delivery period. After receiving the goods, the customer immediately put them into use. After a long period of use, the customer confirms that the hoist we provided is very stable in operation, and after a long period of use, they think the quality of the hoist far exceeds their expectations. As a result, they plan to purchase ten hoisting hoists from Yuantai again and have provided the appropriate hoisting machine parameters and other requirements. We were quick to offer new solutions with some adjustments to their new requirements, such as low headroom chain hoists for areas with limited lifting heights, hook type electric chain hoist. The final design solution provided focused on optimizing the motor and precision to ensure that these new hoists would provide greater efficiency while meeting their needs.
3. Specification of These Hoists
These hoists are built for practical, everyday industrial use and gives you clear, reliable performance. It lifts up to 1 ton to a 5 m height. The unit uses a travelling electric chain hoist for smooth, controlled lifts and precise positioning. It runs on standard industrial power: 480 V / 60 Hz / 3-phase. The Job Level A3 rating means it’s designed for moderate, frequent duty in production or loading environments. You operate the crane from the ground for safety and easy access to controls. Because we had already worked together before and the customer was very satisfied with our solutions and products, they paid immediately for the re-purchase, which let us arrange shipment very quickly.

Results
After a long period of use, our customers feedback that the hoists we supplied to them are very reliable after a long period of use. Compared to other suppliers, we offer very good quality chain hoists that run smoothly and at a lower unit price. Therefore the customer purchased another batch after a few months of use.
Applications of Light-Duty Chain Hoists
Light-duty chain hoists serve many small-to-medium lifting tasks across shops, maintenance areas, and short-run production. In machine shops they lift motors, gearboxes, and fixtures for installation or repair. In assembly lines they position subassemblies and jigs for workers. In warehouses and stockrooms they load and unload low-weight pallets and crates where a forklift cannot reach. In vehicle garages and small fabrication shops they handle engines, transmissions, and body panels. In HVAC and electrical work they lift air-handlers, transformers, and cable reels into place. Contractors use portable chain hoists on short-term site jobs and scaffolded work. Theaters and event crews use small chain hoists to raise lighting rigs and scenery. In laboratories and clean rooms, stainless or treated chain hoists move sensitive equipment without contaminating the area. Their compact size and simple mounting make them useful for beam clamps, trolleys, or fixed supports.
FAQs
Q: Can I use a chain hoist for continuous production work?
Light models suit intermittent use. For continuous or heavy cycle work, choose higher duty classes or industrial hoists.
Q: How often should I inspect a chain hoist?
Do a visual pre-use check each shift. Do a formal inspection monthly or per the manufacturer's schedule. Record findings.
Q: Wire rope or chain hoist — which is better?
Chain hoists are compact and cheaper for short lifts. Wire rope hoists handle higher capacities and long lifts with less chain/rope wear.
Q: Can I use a light-duty chain hoist outdoors?
Yes if it is rated for the environment. Choose sealed, corrosion-resistant models and protect controls and the chain from weather.
