Structure and Main Components of LDY Overhead Crane
The LDY Overhead Crane for Metallurgy is mainly made up of three parts: the bridge, the metallurgical electric hoist, and the electrical system. Its overall structure and electrical components are designed for handling molten metal.
1. LDY Overhead Crane for Metallurgy Bridge Structure
The bridge structure uses a single girder arrangement, and the bottom of the main beam is specially insulated. Depending on the build, the main beam can be made as a solid web beam using U-shaped channel steel and I-beam, or as a box-shaped beam using steel plates. The end beam is built as a box structure welded with U-shaped channel steel. The main girder and end beam connection also uses a bolted anti-shear flange structure or seating structure, which simplifies installation and makes transport and storage easier.
2. Lifting Mechanism
The lifting mechanism uses a metallurgical electric hoist. This hoist is not a standard light-duty hoist. It includes three independent braking devices: a brake, a safety brake or double-brake system, and an overload limiter. 1. LDY Overhead Crane for Metallurgy Main Beam Insulation
The underside of the main beam is specially insulated to reduce the impact of radiant heat from molten metal below. This insulation layer helps protect the steel structure from thermal stress and prevents deformation over time. It also shields internal components, such as wiring and moving parts, from heat exposure. When you use the crane in high-temperature workshops, this design helps extend the service life of the main beam and keeps performance stable.
2. Safety Devices
The crane is equipped with multiple safety systems to ensure stable and secure operation in harsh environments. The metallurgical hoist includes both a support brake and a safety brake, which work together to prevent accidental load drops. The dual-limit function controls lifting height and prevents over-travel, while the overload limiter protects the crane from lifting beyond its rated capacity. In addition, high-temperature resistant cables and Class H insulation are used in the electrical system, allowing the crane to operate reliably even when ambient temperatures exceed 40°C, which is common in metal processing plants.
3. Metallurgy Heat Shield Under the Hoist Drum
A thermal insulation plate is installed beneath the hoist drum to block direct heat radiation from molten materials. This heat shield reduces the temperature exposure of the hoisting mechanism and helps prevent overheating of critical components. As a result, the hoist maintains smoother operation and requires less frequent maintenance. 4. High-Strength Wire Rope

LDY Overhead Crane vs Ordinary Single Girder Overhead Crane
The LDY version is not the same as a general single girder overhead crane. The standard LDY crane has special heat insulation on the bottom of the main beam, a metallurgical electric hoist, double braking, overload protection, and high-temperature electrical protection. Those features are added specifically for molten metal service.
